You are not only talking about the death of a loved one but also about how that person lived their lives. During this traumatic and emotionally overwhelming time, we will also be faced with making the arrangements necessary for funeral services.
These three words are enough to convey to the grieving person that you understand the importance of the deceased person in his life and that you share his sadness. Perhaps you're not accustomed to public speaking, and the mere thought of speaking in front of a crowd makes you nervous. If you are the type to plan ahead, this will result in much less stress and expense for your loved ones.
You can see yourself reading the eulogy as a way putting in a good word for the person on behalf of many of those present. It is most important to make the obituary personal by reflecting the real person. They have no family minister and would prefer a celebration of the life lived rather than a sermon.
While overwhelming, it does not need to be confusing. As hard as it may seem right now, it gets better.
